Benefits of Aka-Cut 1500 HV CBN Cut-off Wheel
The wheel combines a high concentration of cubic boron nitride (CBN) with a resin bond system, providing stable cutting performance and excellent surface quality when sectioning hardened steels and similar materials.
- Resin bond CBN cut-off wheel making it well optimised for cutting hard ferrous metals up to 1500 HV.
- High CBN concentration ensures efficient cutting and consistent performance, even when working with hardened and alloyed steels.
- CBN abrasive is particularly well suited for iron-based materials, delivering controlled cutting behaviour and reduced risk of unwanted reactions compared to diamond.
- Resin bond structure contributes to smooth cutting action and helps minimise deformation and thermal damage during sectioning.
- Designed specifically for metallographic precision cutting, supporting accurate sectioning and reliable subsequent sample preparation.
- Provides a good balance between cutting speed and surface quality, enabling efficient workflow in both laboratory and industrial environments.
- Steel disc with CBN coating offers high mechanical stability and predictable wheel lifetime under demanding cutting conditions.
- Compatible with standard precision cut-off machines using a 12.7 mm arbor hole.
- REACH compliant and non-hazardous, allowing safe handling, storage, and disposal. Worn wheels can be recycled as steel waste.
Aka-Cut 1500 HV as Part of Akasel’s Cut-off Wheel Range
Within Akasel’s hardness-optimised superabrasive cut-off wheel range, Aka-Cut 1500 HV is positioned for metallographic cutting of hard ferrous materials, such as hardened steels and tool steels.
While diamond cut-off wheels are used for non-ferrous and ceramic materials, the CBN-based Aka-Cut 1500 HV is specifically selected for iron-based alloys, where it provides stable cutting behaviour, high efficiency, and excellent surface integrity.
Explore the full Aka-Cut range to identify the optimal cut-off wheel based on material type, hardness, and metallographic requirements.
Recommendations For the Best Use of Superabrasive Cut-off Wheels
For optimal performance when using Aka-Cut Superabrasive cut-off wheels (Aka-Cut 50 HV, Aka-Cut 1500 HV, Aka-Cut 2000 HV, and Aka-Cut 3000 HV), follow these recommendations:
- Set the correct rotational speed based on wheel diameter. For CBN wheels (1500 HV), recommended speeds are 3200 rpm (150 mm), 2400 rpm (200 mm), or 1900 rpm (250 mm). Adjust the feed rate between 0.1 and 0.5 mm/s, depending on material hardness and sample dimensions. Harder materials and larger cross-sections typically require slower feed rates.
- Ensure sufficient and uniform cooling on both sides of the cut-off wheel. For improved cooling efficiency and corrosion protection, use Aka-Cool additive.
- Always aim to cut through the smallest possible cross-section to optimise cooling and cutting performance.
- Dress the cut-off wheel with a dressing stick before first use and whenever cutting performance decreases to maintain optimal cutting efficiency and extend wheel lifetime.
- After use, clean and dry the wheel thoroughly. Store out of direct sunlight between 5–40 °C. Shelf life is 5 years from date of purchase.
