Efficient Plane Grinding with Rhaco Grit Grinding Paper

Plane grinding in metallography is a critical step after cutting to ensure samples are flat and ready for subsequent fine grinding and polishing steps. Rhaco Grit grinding paper, in grit size P80-P320 is ideal for plane grinding. Its Al2O3-based composition ensures long-lasting durability and efficient material removal, making it suitable for various materials, including soft and ductile metals.

When working with harder materials, our diamond grinding discs, such as Aka-Piatto and Aka-Piatto+, are the preferred choice compared to grinding paper. These discs are engineered to deliver superior planeness and edge retention, making them optimal for materials such as steels and ceramics. While grinding paper like Rhaco Grit is excellent for softer materials, diamond grinding discs provide better plane grinding of harder specimens, ensuring high-quality preparation and consistent results.

Fine Grinding in Metallography

Fine grinding in metallography is essential for achieving a plane, scratch-free surface, which is important for precise microstructural analysis. Our Rhaco Grit grinding paper in the P500-P4000 grit sizes are specifically designed for fine grinding of soft and ductile materials. Its high-quality composition ensures a long lifetime, excellent material removal, and reliable performance, making it an ideal choice for fine grinding applications.

Rigid grinding discs such as Aka-Allegran and Aka-Largan provide a robust alternative to our grinding papers. Rhaco Grit grinding paper offers flexibility, and a smooth finish, making it ideal for softer materials and is the optimal choice to avoid diamond embedding during preparation. However, for applications that demand superior planeness, edge retention, and consistent performance across different material hardness, rigid grinding discs and diamond grinding discs are preferable. Our Aka-Allegran and Aka-Piatto discs are optimal for harder materials, while our Aka-Largan discs perform exceptionally well with softer materials by avoiding relief between phases. The combination of a rigid grinding disc and diamond suspension can replace 2-3 steps with SiC paper in one single step, significantly saving time and ensuring consistent results.

Choosing the right grinding consumable is key for achieving the best preparation results. At Akasel, we provide detailed preparation methods with our Aka-Briefs, which guide you in selecting the right consumables for various specific materials or hardness ranges. These preparation methods ensure fast, reproducible, and cost-efficient outcomes for a wide range of metallographic applications.

Excellent Grinding Solution

When used with our unique Aka-Rhaco, Rhaco Grit can substitute expensive PSA or foil backed grinding papers. Aka-Rhaco is a thin steel disc with a soft polymer coating that safely adheres grinding paper to the disc. Despite the strong holding power, papers can be removed and exchanged easily. Aka-Rhaco lasts for up to 1000 applications and is optimised to be used with Rhaco Grit grinding paper, but can be used with most plain-backed grinding papers.
